Hannah's Treasure Chest Founder Named Princess For a Day
CENTERVILLE, OHIO—Heart of Centerville merchants have named Angela Addington, director and founder of the nonprofit organization Hannah’s Treasure Chest, as Princess for a Day in recognition of her contributions to the community.
Celebrating community involvement, a special shopping day and a Dayton Art Institute exhibit chronicling the life of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, Heart of Centerville merchants will crown Addington as Princess for a Day on Feb. 19.
Addington, of Springboro, founded Hannah’s Treasure Chest (named after her 5-year-old daughter) in 2001 and has assisted more than 23,000 children by providing them with clothing, furniture and toys.
“Her work most definitely mirrors that of Princess Diana, in that it is most beneficial to the children of our community who are in the greatest need,” wrote judge Joanne Karras. “Her diligence has allowed the community around her to help as well.”
The merchants will crown Addington on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. at Vintage Scout Interiors at 33 W. Franklin St. in historic Centerville. Festivities will include a champagne toast and chocolates for everyone, and then Addington will travel, in a limousine provided by Emerald Limousine Service, to the other participating merchants to collect her presents.
After the coronation, the limo will take Addington and seven friends to the Dayton Art Institute where they will enjoy “Diana, A Celebration,” on exhibit Feb. 18 through June 11.
The seven finalists in the Princess for a Day promotion also will be recognized for their community work. They are Margaret L. Cook, Springboro; Amanda Creech, Dayton; Jessica Eisen, Columbus; Anne Hutchinson, Centerville; Doris Jones, Centerville; Diane Mescher, Centerville; and Stacy Schindel, Kettering.
Princess for a Day sponsors include Ashley & Hilary, Centerville Coin & Jewelry, the Christian Science Reading Room & Bookstore, Circa for the Home, Cottage 68, Creating Waves Salon, Family Heritage Memorials, Far Hills Florist, JennaClaire Handbag Studio, molly cross jewelry, Joli Boutique, Pieces of Style and Vintage Scout Interiors.
On Feb. 19, all shoppers will be treated to discounts or specials. Circa for the Home and Pieces of Style will offer shoppers 20 percent off purchases, and Centerville Coin & Jewelry will feature a gift, Swarovski earrings, with purchase. Cottage 68 will give $15 off purchases of $50 or more and $25 off purchases of $100 or more. JennaClaire and Vintage Scout will present a gift with purchase.
“We really want to honor women who have shared the spirit of Diana in their charitable work, and Princess for a Day is a splendid opportunity to merge good causes, art and a royal shopping experience,” said Jean Winham, co-owner of Vintage Scout Interiors. “Even after her untimely death in 1997, Diana still casts a fairy-tale spell.”
In addition to the coronation and trip to the Dayton Art Institute, Addington will receive gift packages from the merchants, including:
- A Swarovski Cinderella tiara, valued at $315, from Centerville Coin & Jewelry.

“Diana, A Celebration,” which opens Feb. 18 at the Dayton Art Institute, highlights the many milestones in Princess Di’s life—as a youngster, schoolgirl and athlete; as the shy kindergarten teacher who captured the hearts of the world; as the young, ravishing royal bride; as an icon of fashion and style; as the devoted mother, sister and daughter; and as the charity advocate and spokeswoman.
